A Sense of Place

ARRC’s first public program was held at Shady Rest at Scotch Hills on Sunday, May 18 from 3-5pm.

“A Sense of Place” revealed hidden and little-known stories about where we live, focusing on both the rich heritage and traditions of our towns’ African-American communities, the harmonies and discords among neighbors of different races, and the institutional practices followed locally that mirrored our large society.

This program was facilitated by Dr. Claudia Cohen, Pamela Brooks and Ethel Washington, with input and inspiration provided by Dr. Linda Caldwell Epps. Funding through an Incubation Grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, and a grant from the Westfield Foundation.
